Suggestions for using Robotics in the disciplines

Below are a sampling of ways to use robotics in the various disciplines. These are only a small sample of the ways that robotics can be incorporated. The purpose is to get you thinking. You are the experts in your own disciplines and you will probably have 10 ideas to every one of ours. We welcome your suggestions and would be happy to issue an addendum to these list as soon as you submit other ideas to us. The more you share with us , the more we can give to all the teachers.

Mathematics

1. Use the topics of ratios and proportion to build scale models.

2. Use the topics of creating data charts and graphs to present information

3. Use "checks" to pay for bricks used

4. Use robots to solve algebraic equations involving substitution (D=RT, C=2 ll R)

5. Draw a graph grid and manipulate a robotic vehicle around it following a slope.

Science

1. Design a robot to illustrate one of the laws of science

2. Design a project that uses a temperature gauge and program it.

English

1. Design and build a robot to illustrate a book or portion of a book you have read.

2. Tell a story and have the robots act it out

3. Write a commercial for a product you have designed and built.

Social Studies

1. Build an inverntion out of Lego Dacta that existed during a time period you are studying (battering rams, catapaults..)

Music

1. Program a musical selection into a robot.

2. Build a musical instrument that works.

Art

1. Design a robot that can paint or do sculpture.
