The College Center

College Peer Counselors (CPC’s) are seniors who receive special training in the College Admissions Process. They work extremely hard during the summer before their senior year commences. When September finally arrives, they are ready to assist their peers in completing college entrance and exam applications, writing their personal statements, searching for scholarships, meeting pertinent deadlines, and selecting colleges that meet their individual interests and needs.

College Peer Counselors carry a caseload of approximately 19 students. Their counselees must meet with them in the beginning of the year to complete their initial planning questionnaire. Subsequent sessions are achieved by appointments and through classroom visits, usually in the English and Social Studies Departments. Additional College Peer Counselor duties include: publishing a bimonthly newsletter, organizing and hosting a College Informational Night and Senior Awards Night, conducting classroom presentations, organizing college recruitment visits and college tours, cataloging college material, updating scholarship information, and managing the college center. College Peer Counselors must possess outstanding study skills because they, in addition to their CPC responsibilities, must maintain excellent grades and continue a rigorous course of study during their senior year.

Past academic years have proven to be a great success, as seniors completed applications to every University of California (UC), every California State University (CSU), and many Private and Out-of-State schools as well. Our College Advisor, Mrs. Lisa Golden, is exceptionally proud to serve in this position, and she attributes all of this success to the diligence of the phenomenal College Peer Counselors!
