Installing
a Network Printer on a Print Server
Installing a networked printer on a print server allows you to print from several PCs without tieing up the resources of on PC. The HP JetDirect 300 and 500 are commonly used print servers. The 500 model allows you to install up to three printers in one server so that users can select a different printer for a different job. For basic copies and drafts you might select a dot matrix printer. For color, select an inkjet. For final black and white copies, select a laser printer. You need to record the name and the IP address of the print server. This should be posted on a sticker on the server. If not, use the test button on the server to print out a configuration page which will display the IP address. If the IP address is not on your network, you may want to change it for better network connections.
Launch the HP JetDirect CD from a PC that you want to read the print server and its printer(s). Select installing a networked print server. Follow the install wizard to configure the IP address of the server and name (if possible). Use the drivers on the CD for the printer(s) if required. If the installed printers are not HPs, you may need a specific driver for that printer manufacturer and model.
