Downloading Image Files (Pictures)

Getting your pictures onto your disk or hard drive with cameras that have a compact flash card with a USB cable is basically like copying file from a floppy to your hard drive. Once you insert the card in the USB cable attachment the card shows up under My Computer as drive E, or the drive after your CD-ROM drive.
  1. Insert compactflash card into slot on USB cable.
  2. Under My Computer on a Windows PC you will now see drive E displayed.
  3. Open drive E and select all the files that you want to copy to your disks or hard drive.
  4. Copy the files (cltr-c) and paste (cltr-v) them onto your destination disk or into the desired directory.
  5. Open and edit the files from their new location using image editing software such as Irfanview.
  6. Close the E drive folders. See how to properly eject the card below. You can also delete files from the PC. But it may be more reliable to delete files from the camera. See deleting instructions below.

Properly Ejecting the CompactFlash Card

Close all the applicaitons accessing files on the card. Right-click the card icon (probably drive E) and click EJECT. Then remove the card from the USB cable slot.

Delete photos

  1. Turn on camera on front
  2. Slide the monitor switch on back to PLAYBACK. After a moment, the last photo you took appears on the LCD monitor.
  3. To access the menus press select.
  4. Blue menu icons appear at the top of the monitor with currently selected menus highlighted in green.
  5. Press the arrow buttons toview the settings for the other menus. You can choose from the following menus: Settings, Information, Playback mode, Photo Control, Video, Slide Show, Language.
  6. To exit the menus, press the BACK button until the menu icons and settings disappear. You may have to press several times.
  7. When you are finished with the playback mode, slide the monitor switch to OFF.

Erasing Pictures

The LCD monitor provides different methods for deleting images stored in your camera as you play them back:

You can delect the currently displayed picture.
You can select pictures for deletion or delete all the pictures
You can "lock" pictures to prevent their deletion.
You can erase photos right after you take them, before they are stroed in your camera, using the Quick Review.

You can also erase stores photos through your software when you're transferring them to your computer.

Erasing the Currently Displayed Picture

Make sure the monitor is set to PLAYBACK and the image you want to erase is displayed. Them follow these steps:

  1.   Hold down the FUNCTION button and press the BACK button.
  2.  Press the SELECT button toerase the picture. THe monitor returns to the playback mode.

Selecting Pictures to Erase

You select pictures to erase using the PHoto Control menu. You can either select individual pictures, or choose to erase all the picture in the camera.

Playback> Select> Photo Control> Erase Photos
Press Select to select the photos to erase.
After the selection press BACK. Press Select to continue and erase the photos. Finally, press BACK until you return to the playback mode.

Properly Ejecting the CompactFlash Card

Close all the applicaitons accessing files on the card. Right-click the card icon (probably drive E) and click EJECT. Then remove the card from the USB cable slot.

Camera Care

Don't store departmental digital cameras with the batteries inside. The batteries eventually corrode and damage the camera. Regular alkaline batteries will also drain very quickly, often after only 40-50 photos. A better solution would be to purchase Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries  and a recharger from retailers such as Fry's Electronics or Burbank Electronics. Your department or office will save money on batteries in the long run.

Saving Images from a Digital Camera to a Disk

Notes: These directions cover how to connect a Kodak digital camara to a Mac Computer. The basic steps are going to be the same for a PC, but some of the details are going to be different. Read your manual for more detailed instructions.
  1. Use A printer cable.
  2. Link one end of the cable to the modem port.
  3. Link other end of cable to the digital camara.
  4. Turn on digital camara.
  5. Start Kodak Photoenhancer software.
  6. click on camera.
  7. Go to "Move camera images to disk".
  8. Click Move.
  9. Select folder where you are going to download images.
  10. Click Save.
  11. Click Delete.
  12. No images are ready to be edited and converted in a photo editing software such as Kodak photoenhancer, Photoshop, Paint Shop, or Graphic Converter.
  13. In Kodak Photoenhancer you have to go to "file" open, and select image 1 from the location where it was saved.
  14. Click on "file" go to "save as" and rename your image.
  15. Click on "file format" and convert to a format such as a JPEG for photos and GIF or PNG for diagrams.
  16. For further enhancements see your software manual.
  17. Many of the newer cameras, including the Epson 600 series, save files to a flash card that can downloaded to the hard drive with a USB cable connection.
