HOWTO: Configuring Network Print Servers
with LPR

Both Lexmark and HP print servers can be configured to Windows clients using the LPR printer uility using TCP/IP. Make sure you use the freeware version of LPR. IBM and other companies offer similar products.
 
  1. Configure the print server with the correct IP address and name it. Record the Mac and IP address.
  2. Install LPR onto the client Windows PC.
  3. Install the printer driver(s) for the printer(s) connected to the print server onto each client PC.
  4. Start> Settings> Printers> Properties> Details
  5. Add a Port> Other
  6. Input IP address of print server
  7. Set data to RAW
  8. Spool setting set to "Start printing after last page is spooled"
  9. Disable bidirctional printing
  10. Disable Banner printing in LPR Options
  11. Do test page in Properties.
