HOWTO: Recording Student AUP Release Data on Student ID Cards
Problem: You need to record student AUP records, especially for
reporting on printed ID cards.
First, require that all students return the signed LAUSDnet Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) forms and that parents give permission. Set a 100% return rate as your goal, then you can assume all students will have access to the Internet. The student ID cards can then be printed with a phrase "AUP=Yes" to allow that student to use a networked computer.
- All students get an AUP release form in Homeroom at the beginning of the year.
- Students return the form and an SIS clerk records the result. The from then goes into the student CUM folder.
- On the SIS system, use ID 01 and field #246, Internet Access Allowed....Yes or No.
- Coordinate with the company that prints the student ID cards to make sure that the AUP phrase is printed on the card, AUP=YES or NO.
- Students can then use their ID card around campus to access networked computers. See creating student accounts for using their 4 digit ID # as their account name.
- Students need to have a record of a signed and returned AUP
before they can apply for an LAUSD ePals account.
- When the student ID card vender prints the cards, make sure they
collect the AUP data from SIS and print the result, Yes or No, on the
card. The card should also have the 10 digit and 4 digit student ID
code printed too.
NOTE: In order to work with SIS data you must get the prior approval of the Principal and the SIS Coordinator, and sign a confidentiality form which states that you will not use student data for any commercial or inappropriate means.
