Student
Project Room
Jefferson H.S. Technology Committee.
Updated December 30, 1999
We are preparing to open the Project Room (rm. 309) on a full time basis.
More information will follow. But please make this announcement to your
department so that teachers can begin thinking about possible
student project. We are also creating a project application form and
sign-up calendar.
Teacher Guidelines
Think of the Student Project Room as a resource like the library. Teachers
will use this resource to finish a class room project that they have started
a week or more earlier in their classroom. Sign up in advance (one to two
weeks). We will create a sign up form in the main office. The emphasis
in the Project Room is for students in the four core curriculum classes
to create a product that could be used for a student portfolio. The resource
is available to other classes when availability allows. Talk over your
assignment with the project room coordinator first to work out the feasibility
and best strategy. Then present the assignment to your students.
Available Software
MS Office Pro, Clarisworks, Netscape Communicator, HyperStudio. These
are all the tools necessary for students to create portfolio work.
Sample Projects
A literary online magazine, a hypothetical newsletter during the Civil
War, a presentation on how to solve quadratic equations, a presentation
explaining Standard Deviation, a spreadsheet and graph of the density of
various materials, a database of living things, historical events,
literary works and authors, a presentation on a local event or historical
period, a training module on how to take notes or make an
outline.
Project Room Rules
Just as in the Library,
students must submit their ID cards, and sign in.
