Science Department
The
Jefferson H.S. Science department consists of eight teachers on the
traditional schedule. Courses include
integrated science (ICS), biology, chemistry, and
physics (see the latest State
Standards and Frameworks).
Students, under the direction of Ms. White, participate in the Los
Angeles Science Olympics each year. Students won the cart competition
and placed fourth in the tower competition in 1997. The following year
students placed 5th in bridge building and 6th in Mission Impossible.
In
another city-wide contest in 1995, students took first place in
building a popsicle stick bridge which held 835 lbs. Students also
placed second and fourth in the L.A. County Science Fair in April,
1997.
Clubs in Astronomy, Computers, and Engineering also serve to offer
students a more enriched experience in the fields of science and
technology.
