Instructor: Mr. Ballash. Roster # 10131. July to October, 2000. Jefferson High School Computer Department.

Course Description
The Web Site Development class is presently offered as a one-mester course which focuses on planning, creating, and maintaining web documents. Files will be created and presented primarily off-line and are stored on floppy disks. Each student is required to bring three floppy disks, return the LAUSDnet Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) signed by their parents, and pass the LAUSDnet student Internet test. Students will learn the fundamental elements of web page design, including paragraphs, horizontal rules, lists, and tables. Students will also learn how to create and insert graphics that are effective and efficient. Students will eventually help create an ongoing digital magazine for the Jefferson High School community throughout the mester.

A major focus of the course will be to develop effective writing skills. Students will be taught how to write a standard news article, how to conduct an effective interview, how to take notes, how to organize and plan an article, and how to rewrite articles. Good spelling and correct grammar will be required. This course expects that students will become effective users of language, and will be able to write clearly in English.

Although some tests will be offered, the primary assessment will be based upon two projects that will be due each week. Throughout the mester, students will be expected to complete at least ten
web-based articles concerning school events and topics. Students can select these topics. An additional project will be assigned each week. All projects will be linked to this portfolio page for display to teachers, parents, and potential employers.

My Personal Goals for this Course
In this column write a paragraph on your personal goals for this class. What do you want to learn this mester? What skills are you week in that you want to improve? What skills are you strong in that you want to develop further? Since your parents and potential employers may view your portfolio when it is completed, what projects or skills do you wish to demonstrate in your portfolio that will be of interest to those two audiences?
