Mr. Roberson's Classes

After reading Two Years Before the Mast, Richard Henry Dana's non-fiction account of his voyage on a tall ship from Boston to the California Coast, Mr. Roberson's Honors English class invited Ms. Mo's Science class to join them on an all day sail out of the LA Harbor on a tall ship. This trip was underwritten by Topsail for Youth, an organization dedicated to bringing the sailing experience to inner city youth in Los Angeles. Students from Jefferson helped raise the sails, tie lines, and do virtually everything a sailling crew does including going aloft. Great teamwork, problem solving, and huge fun was experienced by all.
