African Student Union

The main purpose of this club is for the Black students to feel like this school is also theirs, since this school is predominately Hispanic. The school does not have that many activities for  the black students. So this club is just for them. You do not necessarily have to be Black to join. To the contrary, this club opens up a new forum, a way to break down the stereotypes.

Mrs. Kobelt has been in charge of the ASU for two years now. She was the sponsor of this group when she was in Sacramento. The original sponsor was Mr. Usafi.

Activities:

Fund Raisers- the school food fair. They are in charge of selling soul food, which ends up making a good profit for the academy.
They go to TV taping shows
They  go to the Magic Johnson theater to see the Pan African Film Festival.
African Market
They are planning to get tickets for the Music Award show.
They have talent shows.
Their main event is the African History month.
This upcoming year they are planning a display at the library. They are planning to act out an actual African Wedding in the quad.
