  • WE BELIEVE HAWAIIAN AVENUE SCHOOL MUST:

    • Have a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes high level critical thinking.
    • Have effective communication.
    • Measure our success in terms of student learning.
    • Have a system and resources in place to ensure that no student "falls through the cracks."
    • Continuously monitor students' individual needs and progress to ensure their success.
    • Provide a safe and clean environment for learning.
    • WE BELIEVE TEACHERS MUST:

      • Provide a positive, effective, well planned, structured, consistent, and encouraging learning environment.
      • Employ effective and consistent classroom management strategies.
      • Collaboratively plan and adjust instruction based on student achievement data.
      • Implement Culturally Responsive and Relevent Education (CRRE), taking individual differences and learning styles into account when planning and delivering instruction.
      • Utilize a variety of appropriate resources and effective strategies to implement a rigorous curriculum.
      • Utilize rigorous, high level critical thinking instructional strategies.
      • Engage in professional growth for the improvement of instruction on an ongoing basis.

WE BELIEVE ADMINISTRATORS AND SUPPORT STAFF MUST:

  • Allocate sufficient resources and time to support the success of the school vision.
  • Provide ongoing models of quality teaching strategies.
  • Foster a professional, ethical and safe school environment.
  • Ensure effective communication between stakeholder groups.
  • WE BELIEVE STUDENTS MUST:

    • Be resonsible for their own learning.
    • Complete all assigned work in a timely manner.
    • Demonstrate what they know in multiple ways.
    • Arrive at school prepared to learn.
    • Be respectful of others' differences and treat others with respect.
    • Adhere to all school rules and demonstrate good character, taking responsibility for their own behavior.
    • WE BELIEVE PARENTS MUST:

      • Be active, constructive, and supportive participants in their children's learning.
      • Support the school curriculum at home.
      • Ensure that students arrive on time every day, unless ill.
      • Ensure that students arrive prepared to learn by meeting their emotional and physical health needs.
