Garfield English Dept. Writing
Assessment Rubric
With the Writing Assessment Rubric, students at Garfield have a tool for determining if their writing meets expected standards. It was adopted by Garfield English teachers in Spring, 2002. You can link to the rubric in either HTML or PDF format.
Garfield students learn that they often must observe certain rules when working on various writing projects, especially for academic writing such as an analytical essay. These rules, or conventions, offer guidelines in how to set up a typed page or how to refer to a published author as a source for their own paper. Here are links to resources for some of the most commonly used formats.

There are now quite a few excellent online resources for writers looking for ways to develop their craft, and many schools recommend sites on their own web pages. Students should always remember that, whatever resources they use to get help, nothing can ever substitue for their own hard work and creativity!
