Proposed Shortened School Year!

As you know, LAUSD is facing serious budget challenges this year. One cost-saving proposal is to shorten the school year by 5 instructional days. That proposal is currently being voted on by the impacted unions. IF the proposal is approved, the last day for instruction for Track "D" students would be, Thursday, April 29th. If this happens, 5th Grade Culmination for Track "D" would be held on Thursday, April 29th as well. To clarify, IF THE PROPOSAL IS APPROVED, Track "D" will end on Thursday, April 29. The last day of instruction for Tracks "A", "B" and "C" would be JUne 24, with 5th Grade Culmination held on this ame day. Additionally, school will be closed on Friday, May 28 for the Memorial Day weekend. Please check next week's Parent Newsletter for updated information. We should know by the week of April 19 the outcome of of the vote on the proposal and then be able to confirm the dates for the end of the school year. Thank you for your patience.

Track "A" Parent Conferences

During the week of April 12-16, parent conferences will be held for Track A. Students on Track A will dismiss at 1:24 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to allow teachers adequate time to conference with all parents. Students from Track A and C will dismiss at 1:00p.m. on Tuesday, April 13. You will be receiving a letter, during the next week, to schedule your conference date and time. We hope you are able to attend ther conference with your child's teacher as this is one of the most important ways to learn how to further your child's educational progress. Students in Track C and D will follow their regular schedule this week.

Spring Book Fair

Our Spring Book Fair will be held Friday, April 9 and Monday - Friday, April 12-16 in the Library. The Book Fair will be open 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00- 2:00p.m. Students will visit the Book Fair with their classrooms. Parents may visit any time the Book Fair is open. We can accept cash and checks only(no credit cards). California sales tax (9.75%) will be added to all orders.

Dental Consent

Parents, at your earliest convenience, please return the dental consent form, that was sent home with your child. This is a great oppurtunity to bring much-needed dental services to our students. Once enough consent forms have been received to schedule the services, we will inform you of the date when the dentists will be here.

District Shelter-in-Place Emergency Drill

On Monday, April 12, Fair Avenue will participate in a District Emergency Drill to practice our emergency response procedures. During the Drill (1:00 - 1:24pm), the Office will be closed and no students, staff or parents can neither enter or leave the campus. Track "A" students will be dismissed as 1:24pm, following the schedule for Parent Conferences at the conclusion of the Drill. Tracks "C" and "D" will be dismissed at the regularly scheduled 2:00pm dismissal time.

Have a terrific week,

Rosalba Manrique, Principal
