Direct Giving
El Oro Way has a very active PTA. Last year through your generous support of our fundraisers PTA was able to fund additional programs and activities that were not covered by LAUSD. These included programs such as:
- Additional day of music instruction (Grades K-5)
- P.E. Playground equipment
- Transportation for one field trip for each grade level
- On-site field trips
- Classroom support
- Cal Fam counseling services
- Refreshments for Kinder and Fifth grade culminations
- Wonder of Reading Library
- Credentialed P.E. Teacher (Half Time)
- Computer Lab Instructor Support
- “Eaglet” El Oro Way Newspaper
- And much, much more
Many of our families at El Oro Way have asked about a direct donation program so they may give directly to our PTA. Due to the requests for such a program and the budget cuts, we would like to continue a school wide direct donation campaign again this year.
PTA has set a goal of raising $50,000 this year through our E.A.G.L.E. annual giving program (El Oro Assists Growing and Learning Excellence). This program puts 100% of your tax-deductible donation immediately to work for our school, directly benefiting our students.
We are suggesting a $100 donation per child attending the school (but please remember that your participation of any amount will help us reach our goal). The suggested donation amounts to 55 cents a day for a quality education that compares to one received at a private school that can cost thousands a year! If you'd like to donate, click here for an E.A.G.L.E. Donation Form (pdf).

Scrip
What Is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for our organization.
How scrip generates revenue for you
The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of churches, schools and other non‑profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Our organization buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount ‑ from two to fifteen percent or more – is our organization’s revenue.
Scrip is "shopping cart fundraising”
Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything. Organization members produce revenue by making regular household purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.

Recycle the Pouch! Drink Pouch Brigade
El Oro way is now recycling juice pouches and will receive $.02 for every pouch we recycle. This is NOT your average recycling bin! TerraCycle™ is helping non-profits ans schools earn cash! For every drink pouch you send in, a contribution is paid to El Oro Way. Terracycle then upcycles waste drink pouch material into cool new products which are sold at major retailers. For more info, visit http://www.terracycle.net/.
Here's how you can help:
- Save all of your juice pouches (any brand) at home or at school!
- Please remove the straw and the plastic the straw was in.
- Remove all liquid, and flatten the pouch. Rinse and dry off the pouch to prevent sticking.
- It is helpful to put 10 pouches in a ziploc bag or paperclip 10 pouches together. This makes it quicker to count.
- Return it to school. Please place it in the box at the school entrance outside the office, marked "juice pouches".

GoodSearch is a search engine which donates 50-percent of its revenue to the charities and schools designated by its users. It's a simple and compelling concept. You use GoodSearch exactly as you would any other search engine. Because it's powered by Yahoo!, you get proven search results. The money GoodSearch donates to your cause comes from its advertisers — the users and the organizations do not spend a dime!
Next time you search for something online, use goodsearch.com instead of Google, Yahoo, etc. Every search brings money to our school. Make sure you select El Oro Way as the recipient.

5th Grade Academy
Fifth grade is an important transitional year and it is essential that students develop independence, critical thinking skills, and organization in order to be well prepared for middle school. This is achieved by team building and activities that serve as an extension to the curriculum. Parental support is integral to this process by helping in the classroom and fundraising.
