In the 2010/2011 school year, Third, fourth, and fifth grade students studied the genre of impressionism and post-impressionism. As a culminating activity, each grade level focused on an artist to emulate. The artists that were selected were Vincent VanGogh, Paul Cezanne, and Mary Cassatt. The medium for their artwork was water based oil paints. Students experimented with mixing colors and brushstrokes which could at times look messy and unreal. Masterpieces were displayed in the Wonder of Reading Library for "An Afternoon of Impressionism."
