Law and Public Service Magnet
The Law and Public Service Magnet is a 4-year program for Los Angeles
students, beginning in grade 9. It is a partnership among the Los Angeles
Unified School District, the State Bar of California, community organizations,
Magnet students, and their parents.
The Magnet appeals to students with a variety of special interests including:
Government and Debate
Mock Trial Activities
The program provides an innovative approach to education by addressing
needs, skills and interests of students. Conceptually and structurally,
the Magnet blends a rigorous academic curriculum with a specific career
focus based on emerging needs of the legal, governmental and community
service fields. Our curriculum includes:
Themes of law, citizenship and leadership
Hands-on interdisciplinary teaching
Written and verbal communication skills
Who May Apply?
High school students residing within Los Angeles Unified School District
boundaries are eligible to apply. Students are selected based on their
interest in the program's goals and activities, and according to criteria
automatically considered by the LAUSD computer process.
Students and parents must demonstrate a commitment to the Magnet's goals
and requirements. Students are expected to make a four year commitment
to the program.
