This year's AP Computer Science Institute to be held at Thatcher July 10-15, 2005.  Please encourage your high school to have participation.
The due date for the application is May 31, 2005.
Space is limited to 25 persons.
A $100 check must be submitted by the teacher to hold a place. The check will be returned upon attendance.

A Cisco Academy Instructor JAVA training class is being planned for Thacher School Summer, 2005. A summer class of 25 future Computer AP instructors is being sought. A week of training at Thacher School in Ojai will be provided at no cost to schools. Sub-replacement pay will be provided. Unknown if training rate will be provided if attending teacher is on vacation. Followup training during the 2005-2006 school year will be provided.

The potential instructor's school will commit to offering the AP Cisco Academy class on 2006-2007 school year.

Code and programming background is not a requirement for potential instructors.

Problem solving is the focus of the class rather than learning code. Results of this technique have resulted in much lower attrition of males, higher interest in the class by females, and a higher pass rate by all students.

In 2006, curriculum materials for the AP class will be provided to the school. A future class set of books is optional. If desired, the books need to be purchased with school funds. The school will commit to programming the class into the master schedule, also.

Student requirements to enroll in the Computer AP classes to be offered to students are to have passed or be taking Algebra II classes.

PE Training Opportunity
Summer Leadership Institute: Instructional Technology for Physical Education - watch for this to occur in Summer 2005-2006.
Possible targeted participants: PE Teachers in Grades 6-12 AND interested 5th Grade Teachers

A weeklong training for PE teachers was provided during the Summer of school years 2003-2004 and 2004-2005. Participants worked collaboratively with other teachers in a stimulating and challenging educational environment at The Thacher School in Ojai, California. Participants at Teach the Teachers Collaborative™ (TTTC) Summer Leadership Institute: Instructional Technology for Physical Education (PE) will develop their own technology integrated PE lessons for practical and immediate use in their classes. They will also have an opportunity to update their own technology skills and learn innovative ways to engage their students with technology.

The Thacher School in Ojai, California, provides an ideal setting for teachers to focus on learning free from life's daily demands.  Living and working in a quiet setting overlooking scenic Ojai, participants find the intensity of academic learning balanced by special opportunities for creative reflection.  At TTTC, the technology blends perfectly with the people—and with each participant's personal goals for bridging the achievement gap.
