Microsoft Voucher Information
updated Feb. 7, 2009
The Educational Technology Group is providing Microsoft Voucher information for schools.

See: http://edtech.lausd.net/voucher

File: Memo Procedures K-12 Voucher

A few key points:

  • Arey Jones was selected to be the integrator by all the vendors.
  • Arey Jones will contact schools to arrange delivery.
  • Schools that submitted orders early in January will get their complete orders first.
  • A Principal must sign for the delivery -- NO designee.
  • Any school Voucher balance goes to to the Districtwide pool, not to the school
  • a goal is to have all deliveries done by June 30, 2009.
  • Schools may use school funds to continue to purchase items listed in the Voucher contract until through April, 2009.

You can compare pricing with regular vendor pricing at the bottom right column at:

Preparing for Viewing the Inauguration
Jan. 20, 2009

Last update Monday, Jan. 20th 10:00 AM

Post Inauguration Viewing Summary
Webstreaming of the Inauguration was not satisfactory. Worldwide bandwidth demand was very high. Uncertain of the one or multiple reasons for low success. Hopefully, an over-air or cable setup was done at your school as a back-up plan.

KLCS over air broadcasts (PBS Feed) of the 2009 Presidential Inauguration on:
Tuesday January 20 8:00 am (live)
Tuesday January 20 4:30 pm
Tuesday January 20 11:30 pm
Wednesday January 21 10:00 am
Monday February 16 11:30 am (President's Day)

Pre-Inauguration Suggestions Are Below

Find Instruction, Over Air Broadcasting, and Webstraming Information below:

Instruction:
Source for Instructional ideas http://kids.lausd.net

Over Air Broadcast
KLCS will broadcast the Inauguration live over air using PBS. KLCS is not providing webstreaming for ordinary users.

Analog televisions will work (the last day for analog is Feb. 16, 2009).

KLCS over air broadcasts of the 2009 Presidential Inauguration on:
Tuesday January 20 8:00 am (live)
Tuesday January 20 4:30 pm
Tuesday January 20 11:30 pm
Wednesday January 21 10:00 am
Monday February 16 11:30 am (President's Day)

If televisions have composite OUT ports (yellow = video, red and white = stereo sound out), connect the video to a LCD and sound to external speakers. This should be tested well ahead of time in the locations you want to show the Inauguration.

Many VCRs have Television tuners or can process an over air broadcast or cable signal to send video a LCD projector and stereo sound out to a pair of speakers.

Webstreaming
Lists of live Webstreaming sites include:

http://www.cnn.com/video > click on "Live Video"

http://blogs.zdnet.com/gadgetreviews/?p=812 several sites listed

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10144072-38.html several listed (we had trouble opening this site inside LAUSD.)

If webstreaming is done, have a Plan B with over air televsions and VCRs with over air tuners in place in case the streaming breaks up as there will be high demand on our network for video streaming on Jan. 20th.

The following should help you if you plan to use the streaming over the Internet option:
- Small schools and elementary schools should consider no more than 10 computers to simultaneously watch the inauguration online.
- Middle schools should consider no more than 20 computers to simultaneously watch the inauguration online.
- High schools should consider no more than 40 computers to simultaneously watch the inauguration online.

Reduce additional traffic on the network, if possible.

Riordan SMARTboard Grant for K-5 Schools
Apply before June 1, 2008

A Riordan Grant for SMARTboards is available for K-5 schools.
One application per 12 months can be made.
There is a 50% match by the school to be provided within 6 months after approval.
Order a minimum of four (4) units and laptops.
There appears to be two choices of laptops for LAUSD on the Excel Budget Worksheets (confirming the data as valid today). I recommend the more expensive one – it will have less lag using most applications.

See complete background information, application, budget worksheets, and Riordan Foundation grant contact information from:
http://riordanfoundation.org/SMART%20.html

Application window ends June 1, 2008.

From webpage:
“Eligibility Requirements
Only public and parochial elementary schools in Los Angeles County may apply
Grant is only for K-5 classrooms or labs. Schools must provide 50% of the total cost; Rx for Reading covers 50%. At least 50% of students at the school must qualify for free or reduced lunch. (Archdiocese of Los Angeles schools must be designated a level 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10.) Teachers and Principals must commit to integrate technology into their daily/weekly curriculum. Schools can only apply for one Rx for Reading SMART Classroom Technology grant every 12 months.”

Q/A:
Q.
How will the installations be done and by whom?
Is 50% of the installation covered by Riordan?

A. In terms of wall and ceiling mount installations, the foundation will only cover up to $550 worth of installation fees. Anything beyond that the school would be responsible for covering or suggest selecting the mobile stand.

Three Annual Tech Related Surveys

1. Site Inventory - due October
2. EdTech Profile - due October
3. CA Tech Survey - due March

1. Due in October annually:
An online "Site Computer Inventory" This replaces the "Form 9"
See:
https://netinfo.lausd.net/invent/desktop_inventory.php

The SUBMIT button is at the bottom of the page.
The collection of information regarding instructional computers is included for state reporting, which is due annually in October. Please refer to Memorandum No. MEM-4322.1 “Approved Surveys/Reports, 2008- 09,” dated July 21, 2008, for more information.
Usually one person completes this survey for a school.
You need to be at an LAUSD location to view the survey.

2. Due October 31 annually
EdTechProfile (formerly CTAP2 Online) iAssessment Survey

Completed by all certificated staff each school year.
Survey period begins August 1 and ends October 31 of each year.

EdTechProfile address http://www.edtechprofile.org/ .

Tips:
Note 1: On a Mac, Internet Explorer may not function correctly on log-ons. Use a late version of Safari or Firefox instead.
Note 2: If you had an account, you can get a reminder sent to the e-mail listed in your account.
Note 3: If your school has changed, first add your new school then remove your old school.
If you forgot your account information, avoid creating a duplicate account. This causes problems in data collection.
Note 4:
Your account should have your LAUSD e-mail. A lot of time is lost at after school survey completion sessions because accounts had old, unused, or forgotten non-LAUSD e-mails.

The four digit number should be your last 4 SSN digits.

EdTechProfile Technology Survey Administrator Details

Note 1: On a Mac, Internet Explorer may not function correctly on log-ons. Use Safari instead.
Note 2: If you had an account, you can get a reminder sent to the e-mail listed in your account. Beware, sometimesusers original non-LAUSD accounts that were entered are no longer used.
Note 3: If your school has changed, first add your new school then remove your old school.
If you forgot your account information, avoid creating a duplicate account. This causes problems in data collection.

The four digit number should be your last 4 SSN digits.

Removing Accounts from a School List
Note: If you know the new school which an person on your list has transfer, ADD the new school to the person's school lsite THEn you can remove that persons. This makes it wasier to for the teacher and the EdTech administrator at the other school to assist. When you are "viewing all" your will see a remove from school checkbox on the far right side. Check the ones you want removed > then, go to the bottom of the page to make the change to the database.

Edit Staff E-mails
Edit staff e-mails to be LAUSD accounts only. Send reminders for logging on through e-mail. LAUSD e-mails are Helpful. Non-LAUSD e-mails cause problems. When you view all the staff, you will see a button for editing e-mails. Often, account e-mails are not lausd.k12.ca.us. It would be helpful to have the LAUSD account listed because non-LAUSD are often no longer used by some staff members. Notification reminders become inefficient when sent to non-LAUSD e-mails and staff meetings to complete the survey get bogged down in helping individual log-in concerns.

E-Mail log-on Reminders
Reminders can be sent out individually (within individual account edit) or by entire group (under view all).

New Accounts
New teachers can create their own accounts from the EdTechProfile homepage:
http://www.edtechprofile.org.

Transferred Teachers
If transferred teachers have accounts at other schools or aren't sure, give your Local District ITAF their names and the ITAF will look for them and transfer them to your school if an account exists.

IE as a Browser on a PC
When using the "back" key in EdTechProfile, a warning page appears. Continue with the "back"key and you usually get to prior pages.

Merge Duplicate Accounts
The Local District ITAF (and maybe you) can merge multiple accounts:
WARNING: don’t merge accounts that are persons with same names in different school Districts in CA or LAUSD.
TIP: SOME persons have duplicate accounts but have initials + no initials, hyphens + no hyphens, and caps + no caps.
Admin page > System Management > User accounts > type in name or partial
names > if multiple names appear see "Merge Accounts" on LEFT column > Merge Account - Search by Name > FIRST LAST
> choose MAIN ACCOUNT and INCLUDE IN MERGE > merge
Main account is usually the latest completed survey. Check e-mails after account is merged.

3. Due end of March annually:
CA School Technology Survey

Completed by one person at each school.
Survey is
http://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/et/rs/techsurvey.asp

For LAUSD, Local District and School completion status, go here > and "View HTML Version of Spreadsheet" for 2007

There is no need to survey your staff to get any data to enter in the survey.

Survey data .
Please complete the survey by .....

Survey is used for funding formulas. Schools not completing the survey will get no extension and may lose certain funding related to technology. LAUSD had 100% completion rate last year. Local 8 schools are among the first first to complete the survey.

School administrators were e-mailed the login information and a document was included in the Feb. 2007 Principals' and AP Meeting Packet.

You can monitor District, Local District, and School completion rates at: http://www.lausd.net/Arminta_EL/TechSurvey/
