Local District 8:  College Bound Dreams Project

High School Programs and Closing the Achievement Gap, in response to the Los Angeles Unified and Local District 8 Action Plan created the College Bound Dreams Project. The project  provides participating secondary schools with resources, materials and training to improve opportunities for students.  The objectives include development of college plans, group meetings with mentors, enrollment in and passing of rigorous secondary A-G courses, tutorials and PSAT, SAT preparation, summer enrichment programs and sequential visits and applications to college.

Additional Local District support to instructional programs includes professional development in School-wide AVID and access strategies to improve student engagement and achievement in core curriculum.  

Parents are an integral part of the College Bound Dreams Project.  Parents and students attend initial meetings to be informed of their roles and commitment to the success of each family. At this time families are enrolled in a long term project toward improving student achievement and college enrollment. Parents are encourage to be present  at each “benchmark celebration. The College Bound Dreams Project works in collaboration with Local District 8 Parent Unit to accomplish many goals related to parents and families.

The College Bound Dreams Project plans to enroll additional school sites including 5th grade students to facilitate vertical articulation.
