DSS 101A - Introduction to DSS
and Stats at a Glance
(4 hours)
Description: The Decision Support System
is a web-based data reporting system that provides accountability
reports of student outcomes and achievement. DSS 101A
includes an overview of the DSS, discussion of the Data
Inquiry Process, and hands-on instruction on DSS functionality
using aggregate (summarized) reports. It will also include
an introduction and walk-through of Stats at a Glance,
the new web-based data reporting system that displays
graphs and charts of key performance indicators for
the District and its schools.
Prerequisites: 1) Basic knowledge and
ability to access the Internet. 2) Must have existing
Inside LAUSD and email accounts. 3) Register for a DSS
account prior to the class using the process available
on the DSS web portal, http://dss.lausd.net
Objectives: 1) Learn to access data
from DSS and Stats at a Glance. 2) Learn how to customize
aggregate reports. 3) Learn how to apply the Data Inquiry
Process when analyzing reports.
DSS
101B - Introduction to DSS Detail Reports
(3 hours)
Description: DSS101B includes hands-on
instruction of detail (individual student) reports,
Student Comprehensive Reports and School at a Glance.
Class duration is three hours.
Prerequisites: Completion of DSS 101A.
Objectives: 1) To learn how to drill
to detail from an aggregate report. 2) To learn how
to access individual student using Student Reports.
3) To learn how to access individual schools using School
at a Glance.
USING
ESIS AND DSS DATA SOURCES TO MONITOR AND INFORM INSTRUCTION
(4.5 hours) K-6
This course is designed to help administrators understand
and use tools available to them through the Elementary
Student Information System (ESIS) and the Decision Support
System (DSS) to monitor and inform the instructional
program. Users will receive hands-on practice with Elementary
SIS (Web-SIS) and DSS and will evaluate how to best
use each data source to assist them with each specific
need. Group discussion with peers will evaluate how
each report could be used. Strategies and helpful reports
will be made available for use to help make decisions
that will improve school instructional programs.
Prerequisites : Participants must be Elementary Administrators
or Aspiring Administrators with their site Adminstrator's
permission. Participants should have some familiarity
with SIS and/or DSS.
Objectives : To help participants learn about data sources
available to them. To help participants learn how to
access data in DSS and SIS. To help participants learn
which data sources can help them with which questions.
To provide participants with a forum to discuss data
and ask relevant questions. To provide participants
with time to work with peers and their own school data.
