Day 5: AB75
Powerpoint
Former
users of the California Technology Assistance Project
(CTAP) iAssessment and new users will go to the EdTechProfile
address http://www.edtechprofile.org/
.
If users access the system via the old CTAP2 address
or through book marked URLs, they will be automatically
redirected to the EdTechProfile site.
Old CTAP user accounts, passwords, and all historical
data and reports will remain active and intact.
If needed, contact TrueNorthLogic with questions at
edtechprofile@truenorthlogic.org or by calling 1-866-422-6252.
Note: On a Mac, Internet Explorer may cause log-on problems
- use Safari instead.
Directions on how to create an account *here*
this is a DRAFT.
Note: If you had an account, you can get a reminder
sent to the e-mail listed in your account. If your school
has changed, first add your new school then remove your
old school.
If you forgot your account information, avoid creating
a duplicate account. This causes problems in data collection.
The
four digit number should be your last 4 SSN digits.

will have a heads-up on some of the data you may need
to have handy in order to complete the survey.
Certificated personnel at all schools
are to complete the EdTech Survey. Administrators are
to provide opportunities for completion, such as in
computer labs, library etc. Certificated personnel may
completed it at home. Administrators must ensure that
all certificated personnel have completed it. Schools
are to update this survey every 18 months. See Bulletin
550.
Data collection has been June 30. There
is a active validity window of 18 months on surveys
completed.

List
of Three Tech Related Surveys Done by Schools
1.
100% DONE in Local 8 Schools
for School Year 04-05
Form 9
due are due October, of each year. Usually one
person completes this survey for a school.
2.
100%
DONE in Local 8 Schools for School Year 04-05
CA School Technology Survey - completed
by one person at each school.
There is no need to survey the staff to get data
to enter in the survey. Starts Jan. 5, 2006, and
we want completion by March 1, 2006 to deal with
any problems. Used for funding formulas. Schools
not completing the survey will get no extension
and will lose funding related to technology. LAUSD
had 100% completion rate last year. Local 8 schools
were the among the first first to complete the
survey in 2004 and 2005.
Details were sent to schools and e-mailed to the
LD8 ITAF's e-mail contact list.
(Unknown if available in 2006: A terrific application
was created by a Microcomputer Support Assistant
in 2005 at Arminta Elementary School to access
results of the survey saving hundreds of hours
of labor in tracking completion progress. Works
on PCs only. Download the two files from:
http://www.lausd.net/Arminta_EL/TechSurvey/
)

Guidelines in creating Presentations for Meetings:
To improve the likelihood of a flawless presentation,
please follow these guidelines:
Avoid "PowerPointlessness"
See: http://www.fno.org/sept00/powerpoints.html
Font
Selection:
Use popular fonts that are Internet safe and found on
nearly everyone's computer. This would include Times,
Times New Roman, Helvetica, Ariel, and Verdana. Unusual
fonts will be substituted on other computers changing
the appearance and impact of your presentation. Limit
the number of fonts to two for the entire presentation.
Note what appears great to you may be rendered terribly
on someone else's screen. Light colored words on dark
backgrounds are better for large audiences.
Font
Size:
Many meetings are held in a room that has the audience
seated nearly 80 feet away from the screen. If this
is the case, font size should be a minimum of 24 points.
Timing
per Slide:
Some presentation trainers suggest that a slide be shown
no more than seven seconds. Perhaps you might not find
this possible, but be aware that brevity is virtue!
Keep
It Simple:
Complexity may confuse the viewer from the focusing
on your information. The files will be available for
download for others to view and use at school meetings.
Placement
of Graphics:
Persons living in Western Cultures have a tendency to
view slides from top left to lower right. Your graphics
and animations should be planned with this knowledge.
Animations:
Keep them simple and fast, and consistent. Time consuming
and complex animations confuse the viewer and reduce
their concentration on your message.
Transitions
to Next Page:
One fast method is best. Viewers will anticipate and
expect consistency so avoid multiple types of transitions.
If you have an assistant help you, have the whole page
appear at once so the assistant and audience can follow
your presentation.
Printing
Three Slide Handouts
Three slide handouts will note lines are printed using
the:
Print dialogue box > Print what > Handouts >
Slides per page "3" >
Grayscale (don't need color) > Check "Show frame".
