Dr. Margarita Gonzalez Amador currently serves as the English Learner Program Coordinator, K-12 at the Los Angeles Unified School District, Local District 6. She is directly involved with school and district leadership teams in program implementation for their English Learner populations with a focus in curriculum and assessment; as well as teacher professional development in these areas.
She received her doctoral degree from the University of Southern California with an emphasis in Language, Literacy and Learning. Previously she worked for six years as a Language and Literacy Consultant, in the Division of Curriculum Instructional Services, Multilingual Academic Support Unit at the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE). Her work concentrated on bringing together expertise and resources for the collaborative development of English language development standards-based resources and training for K-12 and university educators. She has worked as a teacher, trainer, staff developer and curriculum/materials developer. She has taught reading, writing and second language learning methods as well as language foundation courses for schools of education at the university level.
She was an associate coordinator for the Language Minority Beginning Teachers Support and Assessment Project at the University of Southern California, working closely with new and experienced teachers. Dr. Gonzalez Amador began her career as an elementary school teacher focusing in primary and second language development.
