Computer Lab
With the help of funds from LAUSD, the Annenberg Grant, the generous support of our parents and PACE, Colfax Avenue Elementary School has a fully equipped, state-of the-art Computer Lab, utilizing Apple computers which are all on a fiberoptic Local Area Network (LAN). The lab uses a special LCD projector attached to one of the computers which allows the teachers to demonstrate a lesson to the entire class.
Once a week each class from kindergarten through fifth grade visits the Computer Lab for a 50 minute lesson. Grades 2 through 5 are fortunate to be participating in the Math plus Music Program through the Mind Institute funded by our parents through PACE, these classes come to the Lab twice a week for 40 minute lessons. The Lab is stocked with a wide variety of software including: word processing, math, typing tutorials, multimedia encyclopedia and many more. Our school is connected to the Internet by a T1 line, with which all the computers in the classrooms as well as the Computer Lab can access the World Wide Net.
Our Computer Lab is staffed with a full time Computer Specialist who assists with all computer lessons and maintains the proper running of all the computers, network, hardware, software and our website.
After-School Computer Workshop
Colfax PTA sponsors an Afterschool Computer Workshop which runs for four weeks per session. The workshops are held on Tuesdays from 1:30-2:55 pm and Wednesdays from 2:30 - 3:55 pm. The workshops are open to all Colfax students from grades 1 - 5 and cost $45 for each session (parents may choose either Tuesday and/or Wednesday.)
Due to the rapid advancements in computer technology, hardware and software donations are always gratefully appreciated.
