Strategies for Emerging Readers
Learning to read doesn't have to be painful. Use these simple strategies to get the most out of reading practice time.
Chunk itLook at a long word and try to find smaller words inside. Then sound out the other parts, and see if it sounds like a word you've heard.
Use context cluesRead the story skipping over unknown words, then go back and see what word would make sense.
Use picture cluesTake a look at the pictures in the book and see if there are any objects or actions that might match story words.
