October 2008 BROAD AVENUE CALENDAR

GOALS FOR 2008-2009: We look forward to another great year.

• 58% of students will achieve Proficient or Advanced in Reading and 60% in Math on the California Standards Test (CST) in grades 2 -5
• 80% of students will achieve Average or above on the California Test, sixth version (CAT6) in grade 1
• 20% 0f students currently at Far Below Basic (FBB) and Below Basic (BB) levels will move up to the next band of performance.

 ALL VISITORS MUST PRESENT PICTURE ID FOR VERIFICATION- Parent of students enrolled may visit classrooms for 20 minutes on any school day. Parents need to obtain a visitor’s pass at the main office counter prior to the visit. All Parents must also be listed on the child’s emergency card. You may purchase meals from the cafeteria from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. daily without a visitor’s pass. All times of the day, parents will need a visit’s pass to remain on campus.

 NEW STAFF AND CLASSES: Due to the increase in enrollment, we have found it necessary to open three new classrooms. The classes will be in Kindergarten, First and Fifth Grades. We welcome Ms. Hansen for our new Kindergarten on Track D. We are in the process of hiring teachers for the 1st and 5 th grades.

 A SAD NOTE: Broad Avenue is sad to say that our beloved nurse, Nicole Bohni, passed away on August 30, 2008. She was loved by all and will be missed. Our sincere condolences go out to the Bohni family. Dorothy Victorian, RN, is serving us at this time.

 PARENT CENTER OPENING: On Tuesday, September 23 rd the Parent Center had its Grand Opening. A great affair that included songs, poetry, festivities, food and a visit from the Local District 8 Director, Valerie Moses. Volunteers are welcomed in the Center. See Terecita Garcia, Parent Rep. for more information.

KINDERGARTEN PARENTS: Just a reminder, for the safety of your children and others, please drop your children off at the lunch benches and then wait in the designated area until their teacher arrives to pick them up. Please wave and say “good-bye”to the children and do not follow them to the classroom. Parents following students add to the traffic when the other teachers bring their classes to the area. Thank you for your cooperation.

ANNUAL TITLE I PROGRAM MEETING: The annual Title I Program meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 7, at 8:30 AM in the school Library. Please plan to attend and receive an overview of the program.

METAS PARA EL 2008-2009: Esperamos tener otro año maravilloso.

58% de los estudiantes lograran Proficiente o Avanzando en lectura y 60% en matemáticas en el examen

TODOS LOS VISITANTES DEBEN PRESENTAR UNA IDENTIFICACIÓN PARA VERIFICACIÓN-

Los padres de nuestros estudiantes pueden visitar el salón de sus hijos por 20 minutos en cualquier día escolar. Los padres deben recibir un pase en la oficina principal antes de pasar a visitar. Todos los padres también tienen que ser anotados en la tarjeta de emergencia. Los boletos del almuerzo pueden ser comprados en la cafetería desde las 7:30 – 8:30 A.M. todos los días sin un pase. Para cualquier otro motivo los padres tendrán que recibir un pase para poder estar dentro de nuestra escuela.

NUEVO PERSONAL Y CLASES: Debido a nuestro aumento de matriculación, hemos tenido que abrir tres clases nuevas. Las clases serán de kinder, primero, y 5to grado. Le damos la bienvenida a la Srta. Hansen para nuestra clase de kinder en la rodada D. Estamos en proceso de contratar a una maestra de primer grado y otra para 5to grado.

UNA MALA NOTICIA – La escuela Broad Avenue quiere avisarles que hemos perdido a nuestra enfermera Nicole Bohni. Ella falleció el 30 de agosto del 2008. Era querida por todos y será extrañada. Nuestras condolencias van hacia la familia Bohni. Dorothy Victorian, RN estar ayudándonos en este momento.

INAUGURACION DEL CENTRO DE PADRES: El martes, 23 de septiembre el Centro de Padres tuvo su inauguración. Fue una celebración con canciones, poesías, comida y visita de la directora del distrito Valerie Moses. Voluntarios son bienvenidos al centro. PADRES DE KINDER – Un recordatorio, por la seguridad de sus hijos y otros, por favor de dejar a su hijo/a en las bancas del almuerzo y usted espere atrás de las banca hacia el cerco y espere hasta que la maestra llegue a recoger a sus niños. Por favor despídase diciendo “adiós” cuando vallan caminado los niños, no los sigan hasta el salón. Los padres que siguen a sus niños al salón solamente causan mas trafico cuando los otros maestros están tratando de traer su clase al area. Gracias por su cooperación.

JUNTA ANNUAL DEL TITULO I- La junta anual del Titulo I será llevado acabo el martes, 7 de octubre a las 8:30 A.M. en la biblioteca. Por favor planea en asistir y recibir un resumen de nuestro programa.
