Elysian Valley United is
an all volunteer community center started by Gloria Vargas, Steve
Zimmer,
and Albert Vargas, three LAUSD teachers in
1994. The
building site is a former sweatshop. It has been transformed into a
center that
serves the community in ever expanding ways.
The Community
Services
Center provides
the
following:
- continuation high
school
- an
adult education program
- teen
counseling services
- after
school tutoring
- an
online multi-media center
- a 5,000 volume community library
- a
cycling club
- a
weight room
- mole
rojo running club
- a community radio station,
KEVU Radio
In addition, members of
Elysian Valley United are involved in the Neighborhood Council, while
promoting
community activism.
Elysian Valley United is also home to our Parent Center.
