186th Street Elementary School is located 14 miles south of downtown Los Angeles in the city of Gardena. We are part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Our principal is Gloria Hoekzema. The student population is ethnically diverse. It is approximately 50% Hispanic, 30% African American, and 20% of other descent. Our school has many exciting programs for students and their families. Healthy Start The over arching goal for the 186th Healthy Start Program is to ensure the education, health and well-being of students and their families, and therefore, increase the likelihood of the student's academic success.
